Clara's Cause: A Mission for Vision

Clara’s Cause is a fund raiser to benefit the Foundation for Retinal Research (FRR). At 8 months of age, Clara Johansen was diagnosed with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a condition which leads to visual impairment at an early age. 5 years later, much progress has been made in understanding what causes LCA. Our goal is to raise funds and bring awareness so Clara and her friends may someday see a bright future.
Getting Involved

Made it into Homer last night. The ride was challenging but fun. Things are working well and the tracking feature is up and running. I’ll be off tomorrow at 8 and hope to cover some ground. On the way up I was able to get in a 500, 700, 800 and 840 mile days. The last day was a bear with wild road conditions and construction. It was about a 17 hour day but was able to spot a griz. Thanks for all the support and feel free to pass on the word as tickets will be sold through the trip. I’ll post again at the first check point with an overview of the span.

KOIN 6 Coverage
June 12th, 2008
Things are starting to pick up. KOIN 6 news interviewed Mark, Laura and myself on Monday and airing a piece tonight at 5:30. The bike is almost complete with a few things in the mail and a custom seat being done on Monday. GPS tracking will be set up next week. The countdown is on with 16 days to departure. Thanks for the support as I’ve been able to touch base with a bunch of people. It looks like the weather is breaking so I’m going take a ride and enjoy the sun.

Test Ride

Wanted to post people on how things are going. Ticket sales continue to improve, but still some ground to cover. The bike is almost ready as many of the accessories have been added. My friend Adam and I took a ride to Northern California on Saturday and everything went well. The final things I’m waiting on are a custom seat and shield. These two things will make the travel much easier. The bike ran well and the rain held off. I’ll be doing another conditioning ride this weekend if anyone is interested. The Mountain Shop is now helping with ticket sales, so feel free to direct interested people to the shop.

What is going on.

It has been a few crazy weeks since the last post. Sales are going well, but spread the word, there is some ground to cover. Thanks to Kyle, Mark, Gavin and Drew for getting the videos up. It was fun putting these together. I hope this helps advertise the ride. If you haven’t seen them, go to the video section. I’m almost geared up, all that is left is a comfy seat. Things are falling into place as time is ticking away. I’ll be enroute to Alaska in a month. Stay tuned as I’ll provide updates of progress before I leave.

We’re on our way with progress. Thanks to the people who have worked with me and those willing to support the project. A motorcycle is secured and negotiations are in the works for several sponsors.
